Updates on Nevaya

October 27th Update:

Nevaya spent most of last week at school in the classroom and LOVED it. She was tired at the end of each day, but she really loved being around the other kids and learning. She's like a little sponge, soaking everything in. Last Thursday, she had to miss school to go to her weekly Clinic visit. At Clinic, they found out that her counts were low. It was expected because her last at home chemo cycle was finished 2 weeks ago, and normally right around the 2 week mark her counts drop. Because the doctor could see that her immune system had been knocked down, Dr. Plummer said Nevaya had to stay home until her counts come back up. So all this week, Nevaya has had a home teacher coming to the house.

EARLY this morning around 4 am, Nevaya spiked a 102 degree fever and had to go to the Emergency Room at Children's. She has a cold, and they allowed her to leave this morning around 7am. She had a Clinic visit today anyway, so they stayed at the hospital until Clinic. Since she's sick, she's not going to be able to go to school anyway, so for now she's enjoying the teacher that comes to the house. Nevaya really seems to have fun with the home teacher. So even though she can't be in the classroom, she is at least still getting a chance to learn. It's a great outlet for her! Nevaya's going to continue to have the home teacher coming to the house until her counts come back up. Usually that happens right before her next chemo cycle, then she feels okay for 2 weeks before he counts drop again. It's a never ending cycle right now, but we're just so happy she's feeling pretty healthy most of the time.

I understand that the doctors are planning another bone marrow biopsy in a few weeks. We are praying for continued good news, that the neuroblastoma cells will not come back with a vengeance, and that she will continue to be healthy.

November 13th Update:

I just wanted to share that Nevaya's counts have come back up enough for her to go back to school. She was at school for half of the day Friday before the school nurse called and said Nevaya wasn't feeling well. Katie went to pick her up and found that her tummy was hurting her enough that Nevaya willingly took Zofran, which she hardly ever will take without a lot of cajoling. Hopefully she'll be feeling well enough to go back to school all day this week. She really likes classes and being around the kids, and the teachers all think she is so cute and sweet.

The doctor also called this week to tell Katie that Nevaya's CT scan and MIBG scan both came back showing no new tumors or growths! It's a big relief that she can continue on the home chemo regimen and be out of the hospital. We're so proud of Nevaya and of Katie for continuing to be strong and courageous.

"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6

Getting some hair! Now she can make a mohawk!

Side view of the mohawk. It even looks like she bleached the tips of her hair on purpose, but it's really from the sun.

Blonde or brown? Nevaya's hair is blond at the tips from all the swimming she did during summer, but it's coming in brown as it grows.

So cute!
